Bio
John Bura was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Throughout his life John has had an appetite for music. Learning the guitar at age nine, he began to strum Beatles songs almost immediately. In high school John started to compose jazz standards and wrote music for wind instruments. John has played in countless bands and toured in the Edmonton Fringe Festival production of Eating Raoul as the guitar and everything else guy. John has realized music for many different mediums such as orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz band and chamber groups. He also has had works played professionally by orchestras. His orchestra piece "Laughing at the Abacus" was premiered in February 2008. He also has composed Guacamolage! a work for concert band. John's debut album, Darwin's One (2008), takes video game music to unusual places. It features many different styles of electronic-based music such as metal, techno, rock, and industrial music. Each 'song' on this album has sound bridges between them called Interplays. The songs have typical song structures with melodies, phasing, and contrasting sections. The interplays have more repetition and are less contrasting. Darwin's One has all the elements of video game music: computer synthesized sounds, sound effects and high intensity music. This is the first of a series interpreting video game music. |
